CFD COMPETENCIES:

During my research activities in the L.I.P.E, I have monitored different projects in Computational Fluid Dynamics on the following topics: mixing processes, turbulent flows, heat and mass transfer, specie transport, multiphase flows with and without phase change.

 

1- Industrial projects (FLUENT code):

 

2000 ADEME:

"Numerical simulation of two-phase flows in filtering membranes ", this study is focused on the effect of the liquid and gas velocity in the filtering membranes.

2000 CIRSEE/LYONNAISE DES EAUX:

"Mixing Modeling : application to water treatment processes", this study extended the application of CFD to reactors equipped with impellers (and not only stirred vessels).

98/00 MICHELIN :

"Mixing simulation of a three stage stirred tank", this study allowed to highlight the present limitations of the process. I have thus proposed different economical solutions, to improve the mixing process.

1999 ELF Exploration .Production : Monitoring of engineer's projects :

a- "Calculation of the thermal coefficients in the bundles and pipe-in-pipe configurations by numerical simulations". The result of this project was a good estimation of the transfer coefficients, which were implemented, in an in-house code of the Process Department at ELF E.P.

b- "Numerical simulation of a packed bed ", this study allowed to detect the inhomogeneous distribution of the gas flow, which could explain the bad performances of the reactor.

 

1998 TOTAL : Monitoring of an engineer project

"Non-homogeneity of aviation fuel storage tanks: numerical and experimental study". This project allowed a better understanding of the filling and evacuating process in the fuel storage tanks.

1998 POINT S.A: Monitoring of an engineer project

" Numerical simulation of an oxidation ditch". This project permitted to detect the bad oxygen distribution in the ditch.

 

2- Research projects (FLUENT code):

2000

2-1-Numerical simulation of a separated liquid-liquid process by the phase change process in water treatment. The process consist of freezing gradually a wastewater, and from the phase change diagrams the pure water will freeze first, the result is a solid phase of pure water and a liquid phase of pollutant.

1998

2-2-The study of pressure and shear stress effects on biological cells by numerical simulation. A primary study that I monitored, has showed the need of a local comprehension on the both effects for the biological growth of cells. This study is performed in collaboration with a biological research team.

1997

2-3-Numerical simulations of turbulent mixing flow in a stirred tank equipped with different impellers: black box approach and full impeller geometry techniques . This is mainly my Ph.D. thesis with some engineer's projects that I monitored.

3-1-Teaching and Development of special courses in applied and computational fluid mechanics, and numerical modeling at the Processes and Mechanical Engineering Departments of INSAT: During these courses, I have developed specific examples on FLUENT code. These examples treats the following processes : stratified flows, U pipe, heat exchanger, liquid-solid flow, chlorating ditch, Dean vortices at the Process Engineering Department. For the Mechanical Department I have presented some projects on the following topics: external flow around an airfoil, around a cylinder, around a stator blade. I have also teached practical courses in fluid mechanics (friction loss, flow rate measurements, mechanically agitated vessels, rheology, turbomachinery).
